Amisfield Preservation Trust

The Amisfield Preservation Trust was formed with the following objectives: to acquire, preserve, repair, restore or maintain, for the benefit of the public at large, land and buildings of particular beauty or historical, architectural or constructional interest in Amisfield Park in East Lothian.

The Trust was responsible for securing Heritage Lottery Funding for the stabilisation of the Summer House. The Trust is now responsible for major fund-raising and is the holder of the lease from the Council under which it operates. It is also responsible for management, membership and promoting awareness of the project amongst the local community, and for developing the horticultural potential of the garden. It  actively seeks new members and community support.

Much of the progress made in the garden would not have been possible without significant help from Awards for All Scotland who funded most of the tools and equipment used in the garden and helped towards the installation of the water distribution system and the purchase of edging boards for the footpaths.

Funding from Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothians (SEEL) was secured to undertake a Historic Survey and Development Plan which forms the basis for the preservation and further development of the garden. In 2008 additional funding was obtained, mainly from the Big Lottery and the J P Fleming Charitable Trust, to undertake a study which looked into the visitor potential and community use of the garden. Further funding is being sought to enable these the outcomes of this study to be implemented.

Many of the trees from the original tree nursery were cleared by Trust volunteers in the autumn of 2007.

All the paths converge at a central focus which has been laid out with rose beds, lawns and box hedging.
